The Spectral Energy Distributions of Gas-Rich Galaxies: Confronting Models with Data AIP Conference Proceedings / Astronomy and Astrophysics. We use a sample of 87 rest-frame UV-selected star-forming galaxies with mean spectroscopic redshift z = 2.26 ± 0.17 to study the correlation between metallicity and stellar mass at high redshift. Using stellar masses determined from SED fitting to observed 0.3-8 μm photometry, we divide the sample into six bins in stellar mass and construct. These data allow us to constrain the galaxy's spectral energy distribution SED and show that it has an intrinsic rest-frame 8-1000-μm luminosity, Lbol, of 2.3±0.2 × 10 12 L⊙ and a likely star-formation rate SFR of ∼400 M⊙ yr-1. C.C. Popescu. The spectral energy distribution SED is one of the key observational features of galaxies. It allows us both to gain insight into the physical properties of galaxies and compare populations selected at different wavelengths or redshifts. In this thesis we address all steps in the study of SEDs, including how to constrain them from the available data, how to derive the underlying properties.
